Passive smoking or second-hand (SHS) is a growing concern worldwide. Around one-third of adults globally are exposed to it. According to new WHO data, in some european countries, up to 60 % of children are exposed to SHS at home, making it a significant public health concern.

Smoking, be it active or passive, it has been linked not only to developing various health risks and allergies also killing millions of people around the world. A non-smoker exposed to high levels of carbon monoxide, nicotine, and other carcinogens is at a higher risk of health hazards compared to an occasional smoker. Children are the group that is hardest hit by passive smoking. A few months ago, a US report showed that more than half of american children between the ages of 3 and 11 had particles in their blood that came from passive smoking.

The smoke emitted from tobacco is heavier than hot air and tends to hang in mid-air than rise and disperse, creating a smoke cloud that is unconsciously inhaled by the individuals around.

Tobacco smoke consists of more than 7000 carcinogenic chemicals, impacting our organs and leading to a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease that blocks them, posing trouble breathing. This exposure harms children, non-smokers, and women, especially those who are pregnant.

Studies show that severe anti-smoking laws in bars and restaurants can low the number of smokers. However, more needs to be done. Right now, only 7 % of the world’s population lives in areas with strict anti-smoking laws.
