Vienna, in Austria, is a great charming location for all types of travelers, whether you’re looking for a relaxing city break or planning to visit all the cultural and historical sites. And according to Insider Monkey, Vienna is one of the most walkable cities in the world, meaning you may not have to add any public transport fees to the costs of your stay.
Highlights include Schönbrunn Palace, which was once the summer residence of the Hamsburg rulers, the Gothic St. Stephen’s Cathedral, and the Hofburg, which was the Hamsburg’s principal imperial palace, and is now home to the Spanish Riding School.

Of Vienna’s history, Austria’s tourist board writes: “Vienna’s history dates back to the first post-Christian century”. It adds: “Today’s city escape is characterized by the abundance of impressive Baroque buildings created mostly under the rule of Empress Maria Theresia (1740-1780) and Franz Joseph (1848-1916), who was largely responsible for the monumental architecture in the city’s center”.
November until February is the city’s traditional ball season, “no other country has balls as romantic and festive as Vienna”, claims the tourist board.
During winter, more than 400 balls take place each year. At these you can expect to take part in the country customs, which date back to the 18th century.
